Southpaw Guitars

I’m not left handed myself but having played in bands with people who have played southpaw guitars I can kind of understand their plight. You see a lot of them turning their guitars upside down and reversing the order of their strings like Jimi Hendrix did with his Fender Stratocaster. I even played in a band with a guy who just turned the guitar upside down  and played the chords backwards and I also knew another bass player that did the same thing. The point I’m driving at is that it is in fact quite a bitter harder to acquire a left handed guitar than it it to attain non lefty guitars. Sure most guitar shops might have a small selection but your choices are very limited. So I thought I’d see if can come up some ideas on where to get a lefty guitar.

Finding Southpaw Guitars

If you prefer a brick and mortar establishment with left handed guitars for sale you will find them few and far between as the small selection of southpaw guitars in bigger shops is the status quo. However, I do know of a shop in Houston that is called “Southpaw Guitars” that has a wide selection to choose from or if you live in or near another  bigger city and have access to several music stores in your area you may want to spend some time visiting the different stores and checking out the selection that they do have available. You may just want to be able able to play a particular left hand guitar to get a feel for how well it plays and feels. This can definitely be more time consuming but your options are few.

You are without a doubt going to have a wider selection to choose from on the internet. Even the store I mentioned before in Houston has a website available with a huge selection for you to look through. Of course, the downside of that would be that you are not able to try out the southpaw guitars before you order them. This is something I have actually done myself on a guitar that I was happy with the deal being offered online. The main thing I took into account was there warranty because if there is any damage done while shipping you want to be sure and know that will be taken care of. You will also have a short wait while it is being shipped but generally just a few days and they should be able to let you know about how long. My experience is that they generally tell you longer than what it normally takes  to be on the safe side. Keep in mind that when you get the guitar you may want to have it set up to match your playing style or there may be some fret noise or some other adjustment you need to make. So, if you don’t typically handle doing that yourself you want to figure in what it will cost you to have done at a guitar shop in your area.

Final Words On Southpaw Guitars

I know finding what you want can be a pain for leftys sometimes but there’s no reason for you to settle for less because of that. It might take a little more work on your part but there are some great southpaw guitars out there to be had so take the time to get what you want you’ll be happy you did.
